Split Pea & Barley Soup Mix

 Comfort food at it's best! A wonderful blend of flavor.

This perfect blend of peas, barley and spices will effortlessly transform a ham bone or ham steak into a memorable creation that your family will ask for again and again! In the unlikely event that you have leftovers, we think it tastes even better the second day!

 

Instructions

 

Rinse peas and barley thoroughly. Cover with water and soak 2-3 hours. Drain and rinse again.

 

 

Place in crockpot or slow cooker:

Split Pea and Barley mixture

contents of spice packet

2 quarts of water or broth

1 cooked or smoked ham hock or ham steak

Cook approximately 6-8 hours on high.

 

 

OR

Combine above ingredients in a 3 qt. pot, bring to boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 2-4 hours or until tender.

 

 

Add salt to taste at the end of cooking.

 

If you prefer a smooth split pea soup, puree all or part in a blender before serving.

 

Serve with a salad and bread for a simple but wholesome meal.
